Pregnant women should take care of their oral health

Pregnant women should take care of their oral health. Pregnant women’s dental health is more vulnerable. According to doctors, pregnancy causes changes in a woman’s oral cavity. Many suffer from gum inflammation called pregnancy gingivitis, caused by hormonal changes affecting gum blood vessels, plaque bacteria, and the local immune system.
It’s important to note that pregnant women with gingivitis or periodontitis are at higher risk of preterm birth or delivering a low birth weight baby.
Another characteristic symptom in pregnant women is the appearance of granuloma gravidarum, a red mass on the gum that bleeds easily. It’s a benign tumor that usually regresses after childbirth.
During pregnancy, some women also develop cavities. According to specialists, pregnancy itself doesn’t cause cavities. However, women experiencing frequent vomiting may have their teeth affected by gastric acids, capable of damaging enamel. Therefore, it’s recommended to rinse the mouth thoroughly after vomiting and, if possible, add baking soda to the water.
Overall, maintaining dental health during pregnancy is crucial. In addition to improving hygiene habits, regular visits to the dentist are essential for early detection of any oral pathology symptoms and appropriate treatment. Pregnant women should take care of their oral health.
